선수와 코치의 수직적 권력 관계 형성에 대한 고찰
이 연구는 국내 스포츠에서 코치와 선수 간의 관계가 왜 서구의 수평적인 파트너 관계가 아닌 수직적인 권력 관계로 형성되게 되었는지를 알아보고자 하였다. 국내에서 코치와 선수 간의 권력 관계는 수직적인 사제관계와 온정 적 인간관계를 바탕으로 형성되었다. 첫째, 현재까지도 일부 남아 있는 전통 적 사회 가치인 유교 관념을 바탕으로 한 군사부일체라는 개념이 코치들이 선생님으로서 높은 권위와 커다란 권력을 갖게 해 주었다. 둘째, 일제강점기 시기 식민 지배를 통해 강제적으로 근대화를 거치는 과정에서 서구의 스포 츠를 지도한 근대지식인들 또한 선생님의 지위를 누리고 있었다. 셋째, 광복 이후 미국식 스포츠 시스템의 도입 과정에서 학원 스포츠가 형성되었고, 코 치는 학원 스포츠 시스템에서도 선생님으로서 막강한 권력을 행사하게 되었 다. 넷째, 군사독재와 경제성장 일변의 시기를 거치면서 한국 사회는 결과 중심사회로 변모하게 되었고, 결과 중심의 엘리트 스포츠 시스템 또한 선수 들에 대한 코치의 지배력을 강화해 주었다.
A Study on the Formation of Hierarchical Power Relationships between Athletes and Coaches
The purpose of this study is to examine the way in which the hierarchical coach-athlete relationship has been formed in Korean sports world. The hierarchical coach-athlete relationship in Korea is closely related to such problems as the coaches’ (sexual) violence to athletes, the coaches’ abuse of authority in the recruitment of athletes, and the coaches’ excessive influence on the future careers of athletes. The historical factors in the formation of this relationship based on the Confucian idea of ‘King-Master-Father Trinity’ emphasizes that teachers should be respected, modern Korean intellectuals under the Japanese rule took the role of teachers to enlighten the nation, the totalitarian school athletic sport in which coaches were allowed to use all their power and any means for the victory, and government-initiated elitist sports enhanced the influence of coaches on athletes.
